Hi and welcome to my blog ‘Family charms’!
My name is Damayanti and I’m Indian, or more specifically a Bengali from Assam but I’ve spent most of my life in the West, namely Sweden, England, and a brief stint in the US doing my MBA degree. While I probably have a Western outlook on most things, I’m still passionate about my Indian roots. More than that, my family and who we are are even more important to me; especially making sure that our family’s story lives on when I eventually have my own family, and when they have a family and so on. However, up until now I have taken it for granted that the good fortune of living close to my parents and sister will just magically make me absorb their stories, traditions, and food through osmosis. This hasn’t really happened. And I’m also forgetful.
So this blog is my attempt at chronicling my family. As well as writing about all my favourite family moments including recipes and anecdotes, I will also write about Indian cultural happenings in London that I check out from time to time, books and other interesting tidbits which throw some light on my Indian cultural identity.
The hope is that through writing about it, I can actively learn about myself as well as have a permanent record of my family’s charms.
Keep it going thirtysomething Coconut 🙂
